Facial Rejuvenation Surgery in San Francisco

The face is one of the first areas to show the effects of aging, gravity, sun damage, and genetics. Patients in their late thirties, forties, fifties commonly experience facial wrinkling, line formation, a decrease in facial tone, and sagging cheeks. The facial rejuvenation specialists at Wave Plastic Surgery are able to help patients reverse signs of aging and achieve a naturally youthful appearance by performing a facelift procedure.

Conditions Treated by Facelifts

A facelift procedure treats the lower two-thirds of the face and neck. The most common conditions that are treated using a facelift include the following:

  • Jowling
  • Nasolabial folding
  • Cheek sagging

Supplementing your facelift with a brow lift and eyelid surgery can help rejuvenate the upper portion of your face for an even younger look.

What is a Facelift?

Skin tightening and thread treatments are often times not enough to help patients with visible signs of aging achieve the look they want. The goal of a facelift is to restore facial structures back to their normal anatomical position. Facial skin and underlying muscles that have lost strength and elasticity because of aging are tightened and repositioned during a facelift procedure. Excess skin is also removed.

*Individual results may vary.

The Procedure

The specialists at Wave Plastic Surgery perform facelifts at Wave certified outpatient surgery centers. The procedure is performed under intravenous (IV) sedation or general anesthesia using the following steps:

  1. Incision. An incision is carefully made within the hairline. The incision starts above the ear, travels down in front of the ear, and then finishes behind the ear, tracing down the hairline at the back of the neck.
  2. Muscle and tissue elevation. A layer of muscle and tissue known as the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS) is elevated extensively and then repositioned to restore it to a much more youthful location.
  3. Closure. Skin is draped over the elevated SMAS and carefully closed using sutures.

Recovering From a Facelift Procedure*

Patients experience some temporary numbness and swelling after their procedure. This quickly goes away when post-operative instructions are followed. Patients are usually able to return to work and normal activities about two weeks after their procedure. Several follow-up appointments are scheduled after surgery to ensure patients are healing properly and receive maximum results.
